Normally he'd prompt her to continue, but there's something to just hearing things be said without expectation. He doesn't have to bask in it because it somehow warms him on the inside.
All at once everything is just different. It's not just his perception, judging from Li's expression. The warm feeling from earlier is replaced with a cold dread when she grabs for him. He sees her hand there, he's pretty sure he should be feeling it too, but it's almost like he has to focus extra hard for it. He's not even sure when his own hand's moved, grasping for Li.
...except his hand seems to go right through her, and he's at a complete loss for reasons that he can only stare in shock at his traitorous hand before looking at Li like he's somehow failed her.
There's a subtle but building white noise around them, parts of the furthermost city slowly vanishing. Somehow Donatello has a feeling there's something more happening, but he's afraid to look away from Li, afraid she'll vanish too. A dream, is that all this really was after all? Something to that thought stokes that rare little ember of true anger tucked away in its own corner, but it's quickly swallowed by the growing sense of helplessness because he can't stop whatever's going on. It hadn't been in their power to begin with. The world shrinks in upon them and shows no sign of stopping. He shouts her name but all he can hear is a growing ringing in his ears, even as he tries to reach for her hand again--
