Link gives Luke a short, sharp nod. Yes, it was nice to meet him too. Yes, they should probably figure out what was going on. Link certainly had no idea; everything here looked strange and different, and it certainly wasn't any part of Hyrule that he knew.

Without waiting to see if Luke will keep pace, Link starts walking towards that cluster of people. But he stops to pick up a tree branch - tossing the gun away means he doesn't have a weapon. Tree branch will have to do.

And then when he picks up the branch, he notices something else interesting - a few mushrooms, just nearby. Mushrooms he's never seen before! Link steps over to them, picking them up.
