Link had been just about to start climbing one of those buildings - but then his name was called, and he turns to find Luke arriving. And offering mushrooms.
As for whether this is weird, well. Normally people don't go around giving gifts of mushrooms just because they saw someone else collecting them. Fortunately for Luke however, Link has an extremely poor understanding of social norms - and therefore he has no idea that this is, in fact, weird.
Luke wants to give him free mushrooms? No way will Link turn that down. "Thank you," he says, as he cheerily takes the mushrooms. He doesn't shove them in his shirt for safe-keeping, however - instead, they go straight into the Slate. Which means they just kind of...disappear.
And now there's a rock. Link does indeed take it, turning it over in his hands as he admires it's shiny black surface. He doesn't recognise this one. "What kind of rock is it?"
