Test Drive Meme #1

Test Drive Info

Test Drive Memes usually take place in a virtual reality simulation occurring in characters' minds that tests them for 'fitness' before they enter the setting officially. However, for the first TDM, it will be set in the real world and centered around the arrival of the first crop of extra-universal "recruits."
Test Drive Meme threads may be considered game canon so long as all parties agree to it.
Test Drive Meme threads do count for Activity Check.

Welcome to the Broken World.

You can't even remember how you got here.

All you know is that one moment you were in a world you were used to, comfortable in. It might have been a regular day or the most important day of your life, in the middle of a meal or brushing your teeth or the battle to save the world or the moment of your death. Whoever took you didn't seem to care what you were doing when you were taken, and now that you're here, they still don't seem to care.

You wake up after what seems like the blink of an eye, nauseous and dizzy but otherwise unscathed, possessions taken away, barefoot and dressed only in a set of plain grey clothing, like the most bland uniform ever imagined, in an empty room with empty walls and one single door with a small barred window and a single number printed just above it. The door is locked and cannot be broken by any means, you can feel your connection with any superhuman powers you had severed, leaving them just out of reach - you can feel them there, tingling at your fingertips or in the back of your brain, but you just can't get to them. There is no one to greet you or explain what's happening. You start to lose track of time, the only sound the distant ticking of what sounds like a massive clock.

Just when things seem hopeless, when you feel like you're about to go mad, there's the sound of a commotion outside your door. The sounds of a battle, or perhaps an infiltration gone just slightly wrong. Either way, when the door opens, there is a figure there with a hand outstretched.

"Welcome to the Broken World. Come on, we'll explain everything just as soon as we get you and the others out of here."

i. The Rescue

The moment of peace and freedom doesn't last for long.

Even while you're still disoriented from everything that's happened in the past few hours, the person who's just freed you pushes a gun into your hands. If you're familiar with guns, it's simple enough to use, with a recognizable safety and trigger, a magazine of bullets attached to the bottom. If you're not familiar with guns, well...the person who just rescued you will give you a minute-long introduction to it. Press this button, click this hammer back, pull the trigger to shoot. Nothing fancy, but enough that you won't hurt yourself or anyone else you're not supposed to be hurting. Probably.

After being handed the gun, the person rescuing you looks at you not unkindly and gestures for you to follow, leads you through a maze of concrete corridors to the entrance of the building. There, you'll find something of a small warzone, a battle in progress though almost completed, in the parking and courtyard area between several small, squat concrete buildings. There, huddled in the safety of the building's entryway, the person who just rescued you will point across the courtyard toward an encroaching patch of jungle and quickly explain the situation - you've been brought to this place by the Sylphid, long-standing enemies who will "eat your soul" and replace you if they catch you, and the person rescuing you is part of a resistance army intending to overthrow them. You're to make your way across the courtyard and into the jungle, where you'll find someone named Brycen, a blue-skinned man who will get you out of here even as the battle rages on.

The courtyard is mainly open, with a few benches and trees that can be used as cover, and there is a small group of Sylphid - the enemy, the people who took you and are now shooting at you, but who look like average everyday people - who are taking potshots at whoever crosses the courtyard even as they engage with the rebels. You'll be provided with suppressive fire from those same rebels while you cross the courtyard, but other than that, you're on your own unless you want to take the run with whoever else just got rescued.

ii. Race Through The Jungle

Once you make your way across the courtyard and into the jungle, you'll find Brycen waiting for you about a 10 minute walk in. The moment he sees you, he gestures you over and leads you a few feet further into the underbrush where there are a few All-Terain Vehicles parked in a small clearing. Shooting you a little grin, Brycen spreads his arms to present the vehicles, then heads over to the closest one. What follows is a quick explanation of how to use the ATV, a small hovercraft that can seat two. Brycen points out another ATV that is driven by a member of the resistance, and tells you that this person will guide you to the Witches Camp, where you'll be living from now on. But it's on you to pilot the ATV from here to there.

Well, you and your new friend.

See, there are half as many ATVs as there are people, and each one does seat two. Brycen gestures at the nearest extra-universal arrival and tells both of you to hop on. Now, you're both bound for the Witches Camp together, for better or worse. It's a long walk, so don't piss off your pilot!

Or overturn the ATV or crash it, because the path from the clearing to the Witches Camp is rough, without many trails or paths that have been carved out of the underbrush, something the revolutionaries have done to avoid being tracked back to their home. The ride will be bumpy, hover-vehicle or not, with a lot of swerving to avoid obstacles and dodging to avoid branches. Hopefully, you won't have a run-in with any of the local jungle wildlife, which can range from small, relatively harmless animals to lizards the size of small dinosaurs and wild cats.

It's a wild ride, but eventually you make it to the Witches Camp, a sprawling maze of low-to-the-ground buildings and markets interspersed with jungle for cover, and the rebel leading you keeps doing so until you pull up in front of Central Command. This building is one of the nicer ones in the area, and houses the Witch herself as well as the seat of the revolution. This is where all of the rebel plans are made and where new arrivals are put up.

iii. Welcome Home

Once you enter Central Command, you'll find that they've prepared space for you. First, you'll be led to the residential area of the large building and given the keycard to your new apartment, a small furnished studio apartment with a main living/sleeping area, a desk, kitchenette, bathroom with shower stall, and a walk-in closet for storage. Once you've been oriented to your new apartment, you'll be taken to pick your network device from an array of devices ranging from ultra-modern tablets that can fold into the shape of a phone to an equivalent of regular modern-day cell phones to magical tablets or books that can be interacted with by characters unfamiliar with technology. They'll also offer to alter your own phone or device to access the network, if you prefer that.

After that, you will be guided to one of the big board rooms in the Central Command, where you'll find a large spread of food on the table, ready to be dug into - all the staff at Central Command have brought food from home to share with the new arrivals. You'll also find notebooks and pens to take notes, because this is the official orientation, and you'll come out of it having learned pretty much everything about the rebellion, the Sylphid, how the rebellion originated and most importantly, how you got here and how you can go home.

This is where the rebels point out that helping them is helping yourself, because the only way to send you home is to commandeer the device that brought you here in the first place, and the only way to do that is to overthrow the Sylphid overlords.

After this presentation, no matter how accepting or skeptical you are, you'll be given a small stipend and set free to explore the city, linger around and chat over the potluck leftovers, go back to your apartment, make a network entry to meet other people, or whatever else you'd like to do. Want some new clothes? They can direct you to the markets. Looking to start learning magic? They can direct you to the Mage's Sector where you can find a teacher. Looking to dance your cares away in the wake of this terrible upheaval? They can direct you to a club in The Electric Heart that sells cocktails that'll erase all your pain for the evening.

Go wild. The Witches Camp is your new home. What will you make of it?

iv. Network

Once you've settled into your apartment in the evening, you're free to browse the internet and intranet on your new network device. Care to make an entry and meet the others in your same situation?

Unsettled, under-equipped, and searching for familiar faces. They have that much in common, if nothing else.

Rokuro has never held a gun before, and his lack of skill and experience with firearms shows. He can line up a shot with his one good eye, but the recoil keeps throwing him. Sending his bullets up and above the target instead of into them.

And maybe his hands are shaking. Because Rokuro is (was) so much stronger than this, and now... he's just a one-eyed young man who is entirely out of his element. Perhaps it's better his master isn't here, if only so he doesn't have to fall upon a sword in shame.

Rokuro looks at the (European?) man beside him, who wields his gun with such confidence, attempting to decipher what it is he's doing wrong and failing.

Maybe it's in the shoulder? He straightens his arm experimentally, taking a secure two-handed stance, and-- blows a hole into the concrete between Tech's feet, because trigger discipline isn't something the only gun-slinging samurai he's ever met thought to mention.

Oops.

Well. That's one way to get his attention. Tech feels the sting of the fragments sent flying with the wayward shot as they pelt his bare feet, glancing down at the ground before looking over at the man himself. It's not difficult to see that firearms are obviously not a familiarity to him.

"If that had been my foot then that would have made for even more difficulties," he says dryly. His accent does make him sound of European origin, perhaps faintly British if comparisons must be made. His attention thoroughly redirected, the clone trooper studies the other man's stance and the way he holds his weapon. Now probably isn't an ideal time for a lesson but it seems even more dangerous leaving someone to try using a weapon that's apparently foreign to them. They don't need to worry about friendly fire here.

"Which hand is your dominant one?" he asks as he readjusts his grip on his own gun in demonstration. "Grip with that one, use the other to steady it. If the recoil is too much, brace it back here."

"My apologies." Rokuro inclines his head respectfully.

Manners are manners, whether you're in the middle of an alien firefight or a feudal-era battlefield. Ninja aren't beholden to the same rules of social etiquette as samurai, but when the man you nearly shoot is also the same man who actually knows how to use a gun... isn't it better to be safe than sorry?

Rokuro may be technologically inexperienced, but he isn't an idiot.

"I'm ambidextrous, that said... I can only see out of my left eye. Does that mean I should use my right hand, or my left hand?" Ordinarily, Rokuro's singular seeing eye isn't a real weakness, given the hidden power of his right, but without that power?

He feels more blind now than he ever has.
tech_nically: (riiiight)

[personal profile] tech_nically 2022-08-01 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
At least Tech isn't terribly upset with him. He nods at the apology, and then again as the man answers his question.

"I think in such a case it should not matter too much, although..." Ah, why is it so hard to think straight? "-don't worry about it for now. It'll essentially boil down to preference but for the time being, so long as you can shoot straight, that will suffice."

He taps at the nub at the top end of the gun's barrel. "Use this to sight your target. Given the kick this gun has, aim this slightly below before you pull the trigger."
noisecomplaint: (rokuro (10))

[personal profile] noisecomplaint 2022-08-02 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"My thanks for your assistance. I'll do my best to be useful." Rokuro grips the gun with his left hand, steadies it with the right, and leans around the corner to take aim.

Rokuro isn't the tallest, strongest, or most powerful of Sanada's Braves, but he is easily the most devoted to their cause. He will shoot and kill as many Sylphid as it takes to return to his lord's side.

A deep breath in through his nose and out through his mouth, lining up the bead with his target's head, then traveling lower. Aiming for the gut instead of the head to accommodate the 'kick'.

"Please, die." Rokuro pulls the trigger, and this time the recoil doesn't throw the gun back towards his face or completely ruin the shot. He's rewarded with a spray of red blood, not from the gut, or the head, but the throat. The Sylphid crumbles to his knees, dropping his own gun to grasp at his bleeding neck.

It's a slow, pathetic death. Rokuro would feel worse about it if he felt anything at all. If he were back home, and his lord were watching, Rokuro would have taken a moment to decapitate the Sylphid and send him more swiftly and painlessly to hell.

Except he isn't home, and the Sylphid are who brought him here.

Their mistake.

A glance back over to his unofficial teacher, waiting for something. Approval, perhaps. Or maybe further instruction.

"I will aim higher next time."

It's the first time he's ever heard someone make such a request of their enemies before firing. Strangely polite for someone who otherwise doesn't bat an eye when it comes to a kill. Tech stands at the ready with his own weapon, but Rokuro's shot isn't bad at all, if messy. He might be a little unused to guns with actual slugs, so seeing the bloody death that follows is something of an adjustment.

He realizes the man is looking at him then, and so Tech gives him a nod. "Trial and error. Not a bad shot otherwise- you're quick to learn."

[personal profile] noisecomplaint 2022-08-03 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"If you are not quick to kill, you will be quick to die." The barest hint of a smile upon his newfound comrade's approval. Yes, you can be polite, ruthless, and a people-pleaser all at the same time. It's called multi-tasking.

Rokuro turns his attention back to the threat at hand. The pleasure of success is short-lived. They've taken several Sylphid down, and there are still far too many left to go.

"The enemy is reinforcing, and these weapons have limited ammunition, do they not?" Now that he knows how to shoot, his primary concern is reloading-- or lack thereof "It seems the odds are not in our favour."
tech_nically: (riiiight)

[personal profile] tech_nically 2022-08-03 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"True enough, depending on the circumstances," Tech concedes. The corner of his lips twitches in a half-smile as he looks back towards the firefight. "I think this particular situation counts."

His expression turns thoughtful, although in actuality it's more a struggle to keep his train of thought. His mind is still swimming and definitely not working at full capacity, or at least he feels like he's taking forever to work things through that he'd normally not.

"They do. And no, the odds are terrible. Best to choose your targets, save your shots. We have no choice to but to rely on those who have rescued us to cover while we try to make a break for the courtyard. We should get ready to make our move."

"Where I am from, it is simple to tell who is the most important target, here..." A flashy helmet and suit of ancestral armor would go a long way in pin-pointing which of their enemies is calling the shots, but the Sylphid appear to be common people. No different than those who are attempting to escape.

Rokuro steps out to shoot at the next closest target, this time striking them in the head-- only for two more take their place.

"I suppose we have no choice other than to trust them, and one another." A glance across the ground to where the rebel's crouch half-hidden behind trees. It's not terribly far on foot, but the sheer number of flying bullets is daunting.

Without his lord, his powers, or even his favoured weapons, Rokuro has never felt so mortal.

"Should we go together?"
tech_nically: (shall I kill them Hunter)

[personal profile] tech_nically 2022-08-03 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately enemies aren't always so helpfully color-coded. "I'm not sure if it matters at the moment. Our priority is to escape. I imagine we'd be better informed if this was a mission to cut off the head of whatever this alien organization is." Better equipped too.

Tech takes his shots, scanning the area for the most immediate threats. He crouches, looking out towards the exit and notes the possible points of cover. It's not the most promising, but it's something. Glancing back at Rokuro, he nods.

"That would be for the best. I'll cover you." He waits a moment before stepping from cover again, shooting at the Sylphid who start to aim in their direction. "Head for that tree." Making a full run for the exit is too risky, they'd best move between cover.

Ordinarily, Rokuro wouldn't think twice about running, or dragging Tech with him, because ordinarily he is a walking force-field, more than capable of protecting himself and others.

Here, without his powers and his gods, Rokuro is simply human-- and a relatively soft human at that. More flesh than muscle. At least his speed and size make him a difficult target. Rokuro may not be the strongest of Yukimura Sanada's ten Braves, but he may just be the swiftest.

"If you cover me while I run, I'll distract them while you do." A curt nod, and he drops into a low stance, waits for an opening, and starts running. Never in a straight line. Darting this way and that.

As soon as Rokuro makes it to the tree he'll drop behind it and return fire, hopefully splitting the Sylphid's attention enough that Tech can make a break for it.
tech_nically: (shall I kill them Hunter)

[personal profile] tech_nically 2022-08-08 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Tech's definitely got the build of a soldier, although his leanness doesn't betray what strength he has. Still, skin and muscle are not a suitable armor against bullets, and he's certain rounds from these guns will hurt even more than a blaster bolt.

At Rokuro's offer, he nods, and as soon as the man is off, Tech starts firing. The quickness at which the other moves is impressive. He might not be familiar with firearms, but he's obviously no stranger to operating on a battlefield. Tech tries not to let himself get too distracted, watching only to make sure that no one successfully targets Rokuro until he's once again found cover.

He draws back the moment Rokuro starts to fire, letting him draw the attention before he makes his move as well. At least he's used to firing while on the move, and although not nearly as quick as Rokuro, he doesn't dally as he heads for the other man's position.

Rokuro is a man of his word, covering Tech as he sprints across the clearing and towards safe(r) harbour-- at least until he pulls the trigger and instead of a booming gunshot, he's rewarded with a timid 'click'.

Then another click. And another.

Because it hasn't quite registered to Rokuro that his gun isn't broken, and he's simply out of ammunition. He holds the gun to his ear and gives it a shake, as if sound might provide a different, more promising answer. Which it doesn't.

A minute ago, Rokuro thought firearms as a concept may be growing on him. Now, gun heavy and useless in his hand? He has returned to his original stance. Guns are noisy, fussy, and unreliable. So when the next closest Sylphid is closing the distance between Rokuro, the tree, and Tech, he does what he feels is most appropriate, and throws the gun at the Sylphid's head.
tech_nically: (i'll take tactical droids for 1000)

[personal profile] tech_nically 2022-08-08 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Physical rounds do mean for more limited capacities, Tech notes in hindsight as he realizes the problem. He also notices that Sylphid being disconcertingly closer, although even as he's raising his gun in preparation, he finds another flying at it instead as a makeshift projectile.

"Effective, if not ideal," the commando observes as he slips around the tree by Rokuro. "I'm assuming these are reloadable, but given our current and very obvious limitations, we might not have that resource available." More's the pity, given the Sylphid don't look to be letting up any time soon. The other rebels are at least keeping them preoccupied, so Tech steals a look around the tree between them and the courtyard's edge.

"Almost there. I suggest we both go at once this time." Two pairs of eyes and only one weapon between them, but he thinks it should suffice.

"There are many superior weapons that don't require 'reloading'." A rare grumble from the usually polite (but never nice) page of Yukimura Sanada, who often has more say in the goings on of the battles around him.

Rokuro is, however, more than willing to listen to the reasoning and tactical strategy of others-- so long as they haven't proven themselves to be complete idiots, which so far his new comrade has not.

"I agree. Two targets harder to hit than one, and we have limited means to engage in combat. This is not a war I would give my life to win." Neither of them have stakes in this fight, other than their own lives, and the potential lives of those they care about who may be in the same position.

"By your count." A deep breath, grinding his back heel into the dirt for better purchase. If it weren't for these infernally tight pants he could take a better sprinting position.

"-superior weapons that we do not have access to at the moment," Tech feels he must note, taking a moment to adjust his goggles.

He nods his agreement to Rokuro's assessment- and his sentiment. "We still need more information on the situation, which we won't get staying here," he also notes. Getting away from this place is enough incentive, at least, but there's so much to sift through and not enough time to work it out while they're being shot at.

"On three," Tech says, watching how things continue to play out. He saves his own shots for if they're needed once they make their move, tensing as he counts down. "One...two... Go!"

"Because they took said weapons from us-- along with everything else." Scornfully. As everything from Rokuro's weapons to his attire were irreplaceable family heirlooms. Even if he's able to find and purchase clothes less wretched than these, they won't be his.

The Sylphid left him with one item of value, and although useless at this very moment it's easily the most dangerous. If Rokuro's abilities are returned to him they will rue the day they removed him from his Lord and land.

On Tech's mark he darts forward, all too conscious of the bullets cutting through the air around them. He doesn't look back for the other man, any hesitation would be a death sentence, but he is listening for the sound of his boots against the ground behind him.

They're close, getting closer, when a larger (brick shithouse) foot-soldier takes it upon themselves to try and physically cut them off from escape route. Rokuro doesn't have a weapon, and he can hardly compete in terms of size or strength, but he does have two things on his side.

A tall man who actually knows how to use a gun, and a lot of anger.

"Eyes ahead-- shoot on sight!" Words that won't make a lot of sense to Tech, until Rokuro drops down into a very rough slide only metres ahead of the Sylphid, kicking both feet at one of the soldier's knees. It won't take the man down, but it will cause him to stumble and ruin his aim while Tech hopefully takes the opening.
tech_nically: (shall I kill them Hunter)

The clone can relate, despite not feeling as strongly as Rokuro sounds regarding the confiscation of their belongings. His gear is the only thing he really owns, and he feels its absence rather acutely, perhaps compounded for the absence of his brothers. Those are things never far apart for long, and now all at once they're just not there. He's not sure how to feel about it, or rather he's not sure what this feeling is, but he's managed to push it back so he can focus on staying alive.

Tech's right on Rokuro's heels, not that it lasts long for how swift Rokuro is. But Tech is no slouch, and lack of armor does make it easier to maneuver, although hearing bullets whiz past your head as you jerk aside is more than a little jarring. He sees a gun redirect itself towards them, swinging his own gun up singlehandedly to fire just before they can take aim, dropping the Sylphid with a shot. In the short time he's been using the weapon he's already worked out its subtle characteristics; the delay between pulling the trigger and when the shot actually left the barrel, how the force of each shot pushed it back, how many degrees to approximately adjust in compensation for this brief offset--

His attention snaps ahead like reflex upon Rokuro's shout. It would have been faster if he'd had two guns like he'd usually wield, but the minor delay at least serves to sync up better for timing as he then sees the ninja practically vanish as Rokuro goes sliding. Tech doesn't hesitate, anticipating the outcome and pulling the trigger as the bulky Sylphid falters.

Rokuro pulls his limbs inward as the gunshot cracks like thunder overhead, rolling to one side as the Sylphid jerks forwards and falls. He's quick enough to avoid being crushed beneath the Sylhpid's body, but there's no escaping the spray of blood and organic matter.

If it weren't for the organic slick and unmistakable scent of gore, his newly crimson uniform would almost be an improvement. Rokuro shakes his head, attempting to blink the blood out of his one good eye as he stands-- almost tripping over the Sylphid's downed body. The eyepatch isn't for fashion. He really does only have one eye, and can't afford to be even temporarily blinded.

"W-which way--"

They'd be in agreement on the color, definitely.

A strong hand grasps at his arm to keep him steady and on his feet. "-straight ahead," Tech says beside him, only releasing his grip once Rokuro's balance isn't compromised before positioning himself at the man's right. "Keep moving."

He switches his gun to his right hand, holding it at the ready as he keeps his own eyes open for any more complications. Their rescuers resume their firing, forcing the attention of the bulk of the Sylphid forces.

"We're almost there," Tech says, even as he almost casually fires off a couple more rounds as he turns, responding to the spattering of gunfire chipping at the ground just behind them.

"Thank you."

Tech grants him the moment he needs to get the blood out of his eye and collect himself, and Rokuro is silently grateful. He won't forget the many ways Tech has helped him during this hellish escape, and takes his debts to others extremely seriously. Now isn't the time for apologies or prostration, but later, when Rokuro is less maddeningly useless... he will find a way to repay him.

A glance back towards their enemies, multiplying in numbers, and he places a hand upon Tech's arm.

"This dark red does well to camouflage me, if we can find some dirt to darken your uniform I believe we could lay low and allow the search party to pass, then catch up with the others."
tech_nically: (silently suspicious)

[personal profile] tech_nically 2022-08-11 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
One always tends to be the most critical of themselves, but then in this situation especially, knowing that they're operating at a limited capacity compounds the problem. Tech doesn't think Rokuro useless nor a liability, and from his earlier performance he doesn't even classify him as a civilian. At the moment they're fugitives, and the general circumstances are not completely a foreign one to the commando. Usually it'd be up to him and his squad to get themselves out of a predicament. That he's alone and being assisted for a rescue is strangely new.

Well, not completely alone. This is still ultimately an escape, and they have to take advantage of what they can. Tech looks to Rokuro at the man's touch, blinking before he gives a nod as the suggestion made is more than reasonable.

"An excellent idea. I believe we'll have better luck just outside of these walls." He can't see much from within the courtyard itself, but if there's so many trees beyond then dirt should be in more abundance than around the ones here.

"I agree. It will take time to ensure you are properly camouflaged." And there won't be much point if the Sylphid watch them apply said camouflage, however amusing for them that may be.

Rokuro inclines his head towards a patch of shadow beneath the courtyard wall, growing as the sun (or is it suns) rise in the sky. While Tech's grey uniform doesn't exactly blend into the darkness, Rokuro with his dark hair and newly blood-smeared face and clothes do.

"If we stay close to the ground, and I take position in front of you, I doubt they will take much notice until we break away to clear the gate." As a ninja, matters of subtlety and subterfuge are Rokuros rice and ume. It's been some time since he's undertaken a mission of any real importance, but a lack of ability doesn't completely remove years of experience serving the Sanada Clan.

[personal profile] tech_nically 2022-08-11 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Tech follows Rokuro's gesture, nodding. "They should also be mostly distracted by the cover fire, but I wouldn't count on it to hold out for very long." It would only last for as long as it took to clear everyone out, and he doesn't care to find out how things might go if they managed to get themselves caught again.

He starts to move for the area that Rokuro had indicated, holding off on any further shots lest it draw attention back to them. In hindsight he wishes he'd thought to ask how many rounds these weapons had. Hoping that they wouldn't run into further complications outside of the compound was not sufficient enough, otherwise.

Is it the best plan Rokuro has ever come up with? No, not by a long shot, but he is and will always be a firm believer that any plan is better than none. Hesitation will never turn the tide of war, and it certainly won't see them outside the courtyard.

Rokuro moves slowly, holding an arm out to stay Tech if the veil of shadow isn't enough to conceal their movement. Invisibility, rather than shinobi 'magic', is a matter of distraction and opportunity. So long as the fight continues, with fire being returned, the Sylphid have a dozen more pertinent places to look before squinting especially hard at the courtyard wall.

When a Sylphid looks towards them, they stop, and as soon as that Sylphid looks away they go. Almost like a child's game. Never staying in the same place for long, so a 'second glance' will result only in empty darkness and air.

Finally, they reach the 'exit', and it's time to leave the safety of darkness and make an open run for the tree-line. Rokuro stops just short of the light, looking back over his shoulder at Tech and attempting to gauge his state of mind. Half-crawling for some distance likely hasn't been comfortable for the tall man, and few people have the temperament for hiding in plain sight. They panic and run at the first sign of trouble.

While it doesn't show on Rokuro's face, his own heart is hammering loudly. Anxiety is to be expected. What matters is how you react to it.

"Are you prepared?" Mentally, emotionally, physically--
