The Tether

The Tether App

During the night, everyone's phone or other network device has been updated with a new app - The Tether - intended for helping new arrivals find Tethers.

Unfortunately for those who don't want to participate, the prompt for the application will keep popping up on their screen until they fill out the mandatory fields and post their profile. If you don't want to participate, it might be best to fill in the blanks with prank answers!

Once posted, the app creates a profile that looks like this:

The Witch
«
»
Age: ageless
Gender: female
Interests: three interests
About: 30 words or less
base code by photosynthesis
Tian
« ✘ ✔ »

It is a simple swiping type app like many dating apps, swipe left to ignore a profile, swipe right to initiate an instant messenger conversation with the person in question on the app's proprietary chat program, complete with emojis!

NOTE: This meme is game canon.

I regret to say I am about to inflict one of my own tea experiences on poor Ben

It is, and no two steeps are ever the same, even if you time them down to the millisecond.

As long as you only use cream, and stir I have never had an issue with curdling. That said, one time as a headstrong Padawan I insisted on trying to add both cream and citrus to my tea. That was an extremely unfortunate result, and my master rightfully made me drink my folly so as never to repeat such an abuse again!

My master would have approved of such a philosophy, and I must admit that I find it much more delightful to sit on my small porch with my tea out here in the jungle, than back in the camp.
[ Somewhere in the Force, Obi-Wan accepted that Qui-Gon was smirking.

It was almost impossible to surmise reluctance across text, though Obi-Wan's response would merely be one of an attempt at clarification, rather than any expectation of someone just 'knowing' what a galaxy should be. ]

In my vernacular at least, a galaxy is a gravitationally bound system of stars, stellar remnants, interstellar gas, dust, and dark matter. It also contains hundreds if not millions of planets that are inhabited by a wide range of beings.

Oh my. That is a mistake you would not wish to make twice.

Once, when my own master would not heed my words, I brewed him the most bitter cup of tea that was humanly possible. It stained his tongue and lips ochre for a week. I would like to say I have only had to play such a trick once, but he is more stubborn and headstrong than a mule.

[Rokuro is being more candid than usual, and it's honestly because he is delighted to finally meet someone else with a master.

He is less pleased by the explanation that creates more questions than answers.]

And there are multiple 'galaxies'? With millions of planets each?

I find that difficult to believe. When would the gods have time to create so many worlds, never mind so many people, animals, and fauna....

A stern lesson indeed!

Regretfully, had I tried that on my master he would have calmly placed the cup in my hands and then insisted I drink it while he watched.
[Qui-Gon had a very good nose for tea. A bitter steep would never make it to his lips.

Though Rokuro is not the only one enjoying the rare opportunity to share affectionate stories about masters.]

There are, which is what the universe is called. [As for the comment about gods ...

Obi-Wan believed in the Force, not a god exactly, though he knew plenty of species that did embrace deities. As a Jedi he attributed the actions of those deities to the Force, but Qui-Gon had often challenged him on that perspective.

'Have faith in the Force, my young apprentice, but do not allow your own faith to blind you to the ways the Force moves around us and how it divines itself to the eyes of others.' ]

Is that not the nature of an entity we place our faith in? The ability to make possible what to our minds feels impossible?

Gods are not infallible. In many ways, they are prone to the same weaknesses as humanity, and can be lazy, selfish beings. Why make so many worlds when one cannot personally oversee them all? It seems an irresponsible decision.

Like a mother who has more children than she may properly discipline or feed.

While one may more easily escape the attention of a wrathful god, the chances that your prayers might be heard by a benevolent god are also far less likely, if only because so many others also require blessings...

Unless every 'galaxy' was created by different gods.

[This is making his head hurt.]

Does this mean we share a universe with Heba and Tian? With these space ships people speak of, could we not simply return to our worlds?
