The Tether App

During the night, everyone's phone or other network device has been updated with a new app - The Tether - intended for helping new arrivals find Tethers.

Unfortunately for those who don't want to participate, the prompt for the application will keep popping up on their screen until they fill out the mandatory fields and post their profile. If you don't want to participate, it might be best to fill in the blanks with prank answers!

Once posted, the app creates a profile that looks like this:

It is a simple swiping type app like many dating apps, swipe left to ignore a profile, swipe right to initiate an instant messenger conversation with the person in question on the app's proprietary chat program, complete with emojis!

What does your Jedi upbringing tell you about this tethering stuff? How do you feel about it?

It is not entirely unfamiliar - there is a rare thing, known as a Force bond - that can form between those who use the Force. Usually between Masters and their students, so they can sense each other to varying degrees.

There are deeper ones, but they are even rarer still - and always unique. It is believed some are fated, part of the will of the Force. Some call those dyads, but they are mostly the thing of lore in my time.

That's a lot of interesting facts, and I really do appreciate you telling me about them! It sounds fascinating!
But you didn't answer my second question.

How do you feel about it? Like, have you had a Force bond before? Do you think knowing about it will prepare you for what it's like to have one?

[She hasn't figured out that Codi is trying to emotionally manipulate her - why would someone on the same side as you do that, after all? But in this case, she's guessed wrong. It's not about not addressing her emotions - the very idea is, still, just theoretical.]

I have not, but two of my closest friends did. To watch them work in concert, as a result, was amazing to behold. Granted, both were enormously accomplished Jedi - but if it helps in a even vaguely similar manner, I'm sure it will benefit all of us, after a period of adjustment.

[That's a bit closer to what Codi was hoping to see - even better, it's good intel about the sorts of experiences Juhani knows about. This is a bond she's only observed, but still admires and respects. Codi should treat it the same way.]

I agree. It sounds even more intimate than what I'm used to - being able to telepathically communicate and keep track of people on my team - but even that was extremely useful for a lot of reasons.
Maybe Tethering will be something in-between?

I would assume it would be. The Force bond I have witnessed allowed two warriors to essentially function as one - but they were already in love, of course, which was an added dimension.

An added dimension, but not necessarily required? Or does the rarity of these dyads make it kind of ambiguous?

The rarity means that nobody is entirely certain of what spawns them, between whom, or how they will precisely work each time.

Well, at least we have a little more control over this Tether stuff. Emotional connection does seem to play a part in it, but not so much that you have to be like soulmates for it or whatever.
Do you have any potentials in mind yet?

That sounds like it would be useful! I've met Harley, and she definitely has a unique perspective. I think she'd be good for you.
Isn't she also Heba, though? I remember there was a lot of emphasis on trying to find people from the other planet to Tether with.

Indeed. For the moment, I believe I can handle any imbalance. If that changes, or other offers come along, I shall see what happens.
