The Tether App

After the raging success of their previous code push, the creators of The Tether have decided to push their app again, an app intended for helping new arrivals find Tethers.

Unfortunately for those who don't want to participate, the prompt for the application will keep popping up on their screen until they fill out the mandatory fields and post their profile. If you don't want to participate, it might be best to fill in the blanks with prank answers!

Once posted, the app creates a profile that looks like this:

It is a simple swiping type app like many dating apps, swipe left to ignore a profile, swipe right to initiate an instant messenger conversation with the person in question on the app's proprietary chat program, complete with emojis!

I have broached the topic once before, and it seems I will have to do so again.

Remaining untethered at this time has severe consequences. I should not like to see Kylo hurt or dead, and if his pain truly does affect you as if it were your own... it is selfish for him to continue behaving in such a manner.

I would tether with him, were he open to the idea. His darkness does not scare me.

We can shield ourselves from one another to some extent, which he must've been doing more than I realized if he was affected on your last mission, but if one of us died I wouldn't like to know what the other would experience. And I don't want to have to shut him out to protect myself.

There aren't many people who haven't feared him in some way. The fact that you don't will go a long way toward winning his trust.

There is no need to thank me. I am comfortable in his presence. He greatly reminds me of someone I know, although that man is a warrior of light. The two aren't so different.

Once you have fought gods you no longer fear man. Not in the same way. Men can be cruel, but they can also be killed. Gods may be sealed away, but they never truly die.

Regardless, it appears we are in agreement that something must be done.

I will speak to him, and you... appeal to him. Make it known you will not stand for his self-destruction, or your own.

Kylo would've been something like your warrior of light if things had been different. He hides the light in him, but it's there.

Without a warrior of darkness there could be no warrior of light. Dark and light are equal in value and importance. It is only when there is too much of one element or the other that the world falls into chaos.

You have my gratitude as well. I apologize if I was aggressive in our first interaction. I take the prospect of tethering very seriously.

That's what we're taught in our world, too. I never realized how much they could coexist in one person. Or in two people who are meant to balance one another.

It's all right. You should take it seriously. I was lucky; someone else I knew from home is aligned with Tian, and no, he's not an option for Kylo because of reasons that aren't mine to share.

You are lucky to have comrades from home. It seems I am the only one from my time and world. I have had to adjust in many ways. My tether partner is patient and familiar with technology. I am only able to 'type' on this machine due to his efforts.

I suppose so. It's complicated. I don't think either of us belongs as fully to one side as we've been led to believe before now.

I'm good with technology too, if you'd like more lessons. Or if you have anything that needs repair that your tether partner can't fix.

I'm pleased to make yours as well. If you do end up tethering to Kylo, I imagine we'll get to know one another better.

The older I become, the more complicated life seems. In childhood it was all so simple, was it not?

I will accept any and all tutelage in regards to technology. It is my greatest weakness in this place. Tech is an accomplished teacher, however I do not wish to monopolize his attention at all times, or become any more of a burden.

I shall do my best in that regard, but can make no promises. For a tether to be successful we must both willingly consent to the connection.

My childhood wasn't simple, but it was predictable.

Oh, you know Tech! He's from my world, too. Before my time, but he's a good person to learn from. There's nothing wildly more advanced here than we've dealt with back home.

I was born to a specific purpose, and so my childhood was largely decided for me. It was only upon reaching adulthood that I found myself capable of making difficult choices, and even then it is rarely my place to do so.

Tech is my first tether partner. We escaped the Sylphid together upon arrival, and I suppose we have remained close to one another ever since. He is a good man. Highly intelligent... as well as highly stubborn.

A trait many people from your world appear to share.

I was left with a guardian who cared more for money than for making sure I was cared for, so I was left to make my choices depending on how badly I wanted to eat on any given day.

I'm glad you and Tech get along well; he seems like a reasonable person and he's not tied up in any of the current conflict in our world. It makes things less complicated.

An unfortunately common story. You did well for yourself to survive this long. It is not easy to raise oneself.

He is extremely reasonable. Reasoning is amongst his favourite things to do. Regardless of the hour. There is nothing quite like waking up at two in the morning with complex maths in your head.

I have learned to meditate with great focus until he becomes tranquil and falls asleep. Unfortunately, I do not imagine such tactics would work on the likes of Kylo Ren.

I was lucky. I imagine the Force helped even when I didn't know I could use it.

I don't think Kylo sleeps much, but we've figured out how to shield ourselves from one another well enough that we don't usually keep the other awake with our Force bond. I'm not sure if there's a way to do the same with tethers. They seem to operate according to similar but not identical rules, and I'm only used to the Force.

If you were truly lucky your guardian would have recognized you were special and sent you to be trained by those qualified to hone your skills rather than squander your talent.

There are likely measures we could take to close our minds to one another, however I do not mind the intrusion. I chose Tech because I enjoy his company. Even when his particular habits grate on me, I would rather be with his presence than without.

I was alone for most of my life. There is something comforting about always knowing there's someone else with me even if we're at a distance.

I have never been alone. I am a twin.

My tether here is a twin. I knew him and his sister back at home, though they were older there. She was here too for a little while, as a child. Maybe yours will turn up one day.

I certainly hope not. My brother would hate this place and everyone who resides here. He has a far lower tolerance for deviation from our culture than I, and does not trust foreign influence.

[And that's saying something, given Rokuro's less than forgiving nature.]

He would never deign to help the rebels. His loyalty lies exclusively with his master, who is only concerned with the affairs of our land.

I love my brother, but I am not overly fond of him. Our masters feel similarly about each other. They are brothers as well.
