The Tether App

After the raging success of their previous code push, the creators of The Tether have decided to push their app again, an app intended for helping new arrivals find Tethers.

Unfortunately for those who don't want to participate, the prompt for the application will keep popping up on their screen until they fill out the mandatory fields and post their profile. If you don't want to participate, it might be best to fill in the blanks with prank answers!

Once posted, the app creates a profile that looks like this:

It is a simple swiping type app like many dating apps, swipe left to ignore a profile, swipe right to initiate an instant messenger conversation with the person in question on the app's proprietary chat program, complete with emojis!

Rey chews the inside of her lip and toys with her cup, feeling all kinds of conflicted about having said as much as she had, though none of it was untrue.

"You won't take it out on the Luke who's here, will you? He doesn't want to become that person, and it's not really fair to him to judge him for things he hasn't done yet."

She doesn't want to have just signed Luke up for conflict with his father beyond what they've already dealt with back home. If there's a chance for the entire family to mend things between them, she'd like to see it happen.

Vader considered his words. What he's vowed to his grandson - a vow he intended to keep - and what information he had. "I told Kylo I will not allow Luke to grow into that person. Some of that does mean confronting the misguided teachings of the Jedi regarding fear. But I would not punish him for something he hasn't done, no." He wouldn't allow his child to become a coward to struck out in the dark on a sleeping child.

How that was different than what he had done, well. It simply was.

"Do you think it's possible to change what's already happened, then? For this Luke to do things differently?

She's not sure, herself, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying. If things here can't change anything at all back home, then she's set herself up to break her own heart by allowing herself to care for Kylo as much as she already does. Not to mention befriending and tethering to a man who was dead back home, who hadn't been the teacher she'd asked for, and who she's not sure ever forgave her for being what she was. Going home with all of her memories intact would almost be crueler than losing them again if nothing at all could change.

"I put myself in between them, and I don't regret it, but I don't want my actions to contribute to hurting either of them. I don't even know how much I should have told you, but it seemed important that you know."

"Yes. It would take a combination of using the Focus - time can be manipulated with the Force, Ezra has some first-hand knowledge of it, and clearly, the technology the Sylphid have can as well." He'd thought to use it to remove Palpatine entirely, but that did unfair to Rey - better to go for a surgical strike after her parents' births.

Not that it was strictly Rey he was thinking of, so much as his grandson.

"Placing a buffer between them would be best. I exist in such a place myself at the moment." Did he wish to fix that? Yes. "I do thank you for telling me. I've shied from the situation due to lack of information. Have you told Luke these details?"

Rey isn't sure what to think about the idea of time manipulation. Could there be a future in which her parents didn't die? In which Ben Solo never became Kylo Ren? Would it be one in which they never met? Would any part of her still remember him?

She doesn't dwell on it long, as Vader's question draws her back out of her internal speculation.

"Only briefly. He knows what he did to Kylo and that it pushed him further toward the Dark. He didn't want all the details at the time, and I didn't have many of them myself. I thought it better that he talk to Kylo about it eventually."

She still thinks that conversation ought to happen, whether or not the end result helps the current awkward state of things. Possibly with the two of them as referees.

There has to be a better outcome. He refuses to believe there is not.

"It may be best had with one or both of us present." Both he thought - he could pull Kylo to heel if needed, and Rey could keep Luke from running. Physically if needed.

Rey hadn't figured Darth Vader for an optimist, but there are a lot of things about him she hadn't anticipated.

"I think that would be best, yes. History suggests they aren't good at communicating on their own."

She hasn't historically been a lot better, but she's trying, as evidenced by current circumstances.

He'd say he's not. But what he wanted the Empire to be and what is are so different that he cannot think of them as anything other than polar opposites. And having his family here, in places he can touch and see...

Well. They were always a strong pull he was unable to resist.

There had to be something better, because his children, his wife, his family deserved better.

"Luke prefers to avoid confrontation, Kylo attacks it, yes." To be fair - he also tended to attack as well.

Rey, too, though she has calmed down since being here. Slightly. Whether that's the influence of being tethered to Luke or just not having any reason or opportunity to hit people with lightsabers, she's not sure -- though it does present a fresh worry that Vader and Kylo tethered will be more aggressive than either one on their own.

Pushing that flicker of concern aside for the moment, she only hums thoughtfully before responding.

"I think it's more a matter of degree. Anyone would seem less confrontational than Kylo. Or me, for that matter."

Vader was calmest when his wife and daughter were here, but that was probably only not a surprise to Obi-Wan. Not that Luke's influence wasn't heavily present, but Leia had been a child. One he could pick up, hold, tuck into bed, brush her hair. Be a father to, in a more hands on role. And Padmè always had a way of calming the storm inside him.

Vader and Kylo together will, Vader believes, likely be more aggressive. But Vader is attempting to steer that aggression in a place that helpful to his own goals and the common good here and into an acceptable target save Kylo tends to follow his lead. It will without a doubt be a nightmare for the Slyphid.

But her comment makes him laugh - a brief, quiet sound that's more in his throat and suggestive of a chuckle than an outright laugh.

Oh the problem of not leaving witnesses.

"Are you so sure of that?"

"No, but I don't need you to prove me wrong. It's not a competition."

Please spare the entire community the sight of every Skywalker -- including the one who hasn't claimed the name yet -- yelling at each other in the middle of camp for at least a little while longer. No one needs that.

"Oh but under the right circumstances, that could be quite entertaining."

Right circumstances would not be trying to create some kind of peace between Luke and Kylo of course. That he'd like to avoid.
