The Tether App

After the raging success of their previous code push, the creators of The Tether have decided to push their app again, an app intended for helping new arrivals find Tethers.

Unfortunately for those who don't want to participate, the prompt for the application will keep popping up on their screen until they fill out the mandatory fields and post their profile. If you don't want to participate, it might be best to fill in the blanks with prank answers!

Once posted, the app creates a profile that looks like this:

It is a simple swiping type app like many dating apps, swipe left to ignore a profile, swipe right to initiate an instant messenger conversation with the person in question on the app's proprietary chat program, complete with emojis!

[Now there's an interesting choice. When Codi first got here, the concept of tethering with someone who has been compliant and battle-competent would've been her preference, but that's what motivated her to go with Elma and that has not panned out as expected. Not that she regrets it or anything, just that it's been...more complicated than she was anticipating.]

[Faced with the same choice again, this time, Codi hesitates.]

I think I could squeeze you in there, maybe.
But I'd like to get to know you better first. Tethering is a delicate process, you know? You and your partner have to understand each other perfectly for it to work.

[Well...no, frankly, anyone can be Tethers as long as they get the right mage to pair them, but Codi wants to do a bit more vetting before she commits.]

Do you think we have that kind of bond, Jack?

We did crush 'em aliens together, aye? I smell, we be good partners matey!

[Jack typed with exuberance, his mind flooded with all his swashbuckling dreams. He didn't give that much thought to tethering at first, except for the fact that his communicator continuously bugged him of reminders that he needed to tether with someone soon or he'd suffer a couple of adverse consequences. Stumbling upon Codi's profile however, seemed to have lit a sort of passion inside him.]

[Certainly can't fault him for his enthusiasm! Or his logic, frankly - this was the exact same argument Codi used to justify tethering with Elma. It's like looking in a mirror.]

[Except this time she's more cautious, and also, she's holding the cards.]

Combat is important, but it isn't everything where tethering is concerned.
Tell you what - how about you work for me for the next month? Think of it as an active interview that gives us more time to make sure we're combatable when we're not fighting for our lives.
Then, at the end of it, we can reassess?

I did. The Normandy. She was a beautiful frigate, highly advanced design. One of my favourite things about her was that the engineering was done by humans and another species from my universe. A species we once fought against.
